Bronze rain drums have been in use throughout Southeast Asia for millennia, with some examples believed to date as far back as 2500 BC. Built by various tribes from Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, “Rain Drum” is the colloquial term by which these magnificent bronze pieces have come to be known. The drums were typically hung suspended by their handles on the sides and played during important tribal ceremonies: marriage, funerals, house warmings/blessings, etc.

The Karen Tribal Rain Drum is a style which originated with Karen people of Myanmar. This drum features a top with sun in the center, and depictions of fish, rice crop, elephants, snails and frogs.
